Begin with your questions and raw data files in MapInfo.
Vertical Mapper is more than simply an add-on, it's a system within a
system that seamlessly works with MapInfo point tables to estimate
values between points and effectively "fill in the gaps." Whether it's
income data, or pollutant distribution, constructing a continuous
surface of point data in smart-raster format provides visual impact and
offers many enhanced query and analysis options.

With the available information in place, Vertical Mapper
calculates trends and relationships between points and generates a
raster grid using a choice of mathematical estimation techniques. Each
grid cell is assigned a value that is calculated from the point table
itself or that is derived from some spatial characteristic of the data
points such as spacing, density, or visual exposure. Grids can also be
generated directly from a variety of digital elevation model (DEM)
formats.

Grids serve as an interpolated and smoothed representation of
randomly scattered point data. They are used to create a continuous
"surface" of geographic information that can be thematically mapped to
visualize trends across an area. Multiple layers of gridded data can be
mathematically overlain to explore and resolve complex relationships.

Vertical Mapper's contour generator threads isolines through
any grid file of numeric values to build polylines or polygons with
attributes attached. And, unlike many other packages, contour polygons
are created as MapInfo complex regions that can be used to query and
select information from other data tables.

Grid files are displayed on screen as raster images using
thematic colouring, hill shading and colour ramping techniques. Overlie
additional layers of map information to create an effective presentation
