Locator is a web-based application for any organization with
multiple locations. It enables your organization to direct customers
to your nearest store, branch or outlet. Locator uses Microsoft's
MapPoint Web Service to display maps and driving directions.
With the locator application:
- Direct customers to the most convenient location to purchase
your products and services.
- Turn browsers into in-store buyers.
- Reduce lost sales to competitors by making your business the
easiest one to find and visit.
- Get reports showing where customers are looking for you,
allowing you add new stores in optimal geographic locations.

Unlike other solutions, Locator finds store
locations using their address and not just the zip code. This
allows Locator to find and display your locations accurately on the
map.
What is included with Locator?
- The Locator .NET web application including source code.
- As part of the one-time setup, your website graphics
(provided by you) will be incorporated into the Locator
application.
- Setup a file of your store locations (provided by you) for
use in the Locator application.
Where is Locator Installed?
 There
are two components to the Locator application:
- The Locator application sits on your web server.
Installation is straight-forward (there are no DLLs to register
and the server does not need to be rebooted).
- Your location file is uploaded to the Microsoft MapPoint Web
Service. The maps and driving directions come from the MapPoint
servers. All the "heavy lifting" is done by the Microsoft
MapPoint Servers. Microsoft guarantees 99.9% uptime (to date,
there has never been an unscheduled interruption).
Pricing
There are two components to the Locator application pricing:
- A one-time cost for the Locator
web application. There are no ongoing costs for the web
application.
- Simple transaction based
pricing. Transactions are requests to and responses from the
MapPoint Web Service. For example, displaying a map, finding
the nearest stores, and displaying driving directions are one
transaction each.
About the MapPoint Web Service
Locator is built using the Microsoft MapPoint Web Service.
MapPoint Web Services is a hosted, programmable XML Web Service that
allows you to integrate high-quality maps, driving directions,
distance calculations, proximity searches and other location
intelligence into your applications, business processes and Web
